The Benefits of Taking Active Reading Notes – The Students’ Perspective

This week, I asked my English students to write about the benefits of taking active reading notes (ARN) to help them improve their comprehension when reading.  Here is what they had to say:

  • ARN made me think about the text.
  • ARN helped me because they made me understand what I was reading
  • They help me keep focused and give me a better grade.
  • Well, if I forgot something of the page, I could look down and see what the page was about.
  • It is all worth it because by taking reading notes you can improve your grade.
  • ARN are worth it because I always know what we are talking about.
  • ARN helped me do a better job on my Harkness conversation than the last time.
  • They saved me the time of writing notes on a document.
  • They are worth the extra time because they improved my work and my grade.

What do you say?
