Yoda The Teacher

December 14, 2015

I was just teaching one of my favorite 9th grade students to use commas correctly.  He is from China and wasn’t sure if he had seen the Empire Strikes Back (luckily he had or else I would have changed my lesson plans on the spot – Hello Youtube!).  That got me thinking: If I were Yoda, I would never have to worry about discipline again.  Ever.  What student in their right mind would even dream of talking to a friend while being taught by a 900 Jedi Master?  Amazingly, I would never have to ask a student to pay attention nor would they ever think of turning in a homework assignment late.  They would comply and conform out of fear.  Imagine if you will: A middle school student talks back, and all I’d have to do would be to touch my lightsaber.  Cheating on tests and quizzes would become a thing of the past because I would be able to utilize a well-played a Jedi mind trick and force them to look only at their papers.  They could sit inches away from each other, and I would never have to worry because I would know with utter certainty that nothing fishy was occurring.  I imagine that students would behave well out of respect.  No student in their right mind would even think of swearing in front of Yoda because acting properly out of reverence to his status as one of the most powerful Jedi Knights in the galaxy would be the norm.

Maybe I could just paint my skin green…
